WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment, primarily dealing with mechanical problems of the body’s framework.
The aim of Osteopathic treatment is to enhance the body’s healing response, by removing any barriers to the restoration of normal physiological function and improve the body’s ability to compensate for structural or functional abnormalities as a result of injury or the “stresses of everyday living “
Osteopathic diagnosis is two-fold
1) The source and nature of the symptoms are identified
2) The mechanical structure and function of the body is assessed
( i.e. how the body has responded to the problem and the resultant changes in soft tissues and joints that has occurred)
At the conclusion of the assessment the Osteopath will explain her findings and discuss a suitable treatment programme with the patient. She will outline what form the treatment will take and how many treatments she thinks may be necessary for successful resolution / management of the problem. The number of treatments required and the time interval between treatments will vary with the severity and chronicity of the problem. Each individual will tend to respond differently, so at times it may be difficult to give a definitive time to resolve the problem.
Osteopathy is regulated by The General Osteopathic Council and by law osteopaths must be registered with them in order to practise. The General Osteopathic Council works with the public and osteopath profession, setting, maintaining and developing standards of osteopathic practice and conduct. View Registration Details
